ANTI LOCK BREAKING SYSTEM (ABS)

Image
ANTI LOCK BREAKING SYSTEM (ABS)            It is a safety system in automobiles. It prevents the wheels from locking while braking. The purpose of this is to allow the driver to maintain steering control under heavy braking and, in some situations, to shorten braking distances (by allowing the driver to hit the brake fully without skidding or loss of control). How Do Wheels Lock?           During braking, wheels lock if the brake force applied is more than the friction between the road and tyre. This often happens in a panic braking situation, especially on a slippery road. When the front wheels lock, the vehicle slides in direction of motion. When the rear wheels locks, the vehicle swings around. It is impossible to steer around an obstacle with wheels locked. Locked wheels can thus result in accident. Skidding also reduce tyre life. What Does ABS Do?                The system detects when the wheel are about to lock and momentarily release the pressure on loc

MATERIAL PROPERTIES - MECHANICAL, ELECTRIACAL AND CHEMICAL

PROPERTIES OF MATERIAL MECHANICAL PROPERTIES Elasticity/Stiffness              This is a measure of elastic deformation of a body under stress which is recovered when the stress is released. The ratio of stress to strain in the elastic region is known as stiffness or modulus of elasticity (Young’s Modulus). When the stress goes beyond the elastic limit the material will no longer return completely to its original dimension. Yield (or Proof Strength)           Stress needed to produce a specified amount of plastic or permanent deformation. (Usually a 0.2 % change in length) Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS)          The maximum stress a material can withstand before fracture. Ductility           The amount of plastic deformation that a material can withstand without fracture. Hardness           The resistance to abrasion, deformation, scratching or to indentation by another hard body. This property is important for wear resistant applications. Tough

ABOUT OF ENGINE AND COMPONENTS OF IC ENGINE

Image
ENGINE & WORKING PRINCIPLES                 A heat engine is a machine, which converts heat energy into mechanical energy. The       combustion of fuel such as coal, petrol, diesel generates heat. This heat is supplied to a       working substance at high temperature. By the expansion of this substance in suitable       machines, heat energy is converted into useful work. CLASSIFICATION OF ENGINE COMPONENTS OF IC ENGINE   Cylinder:         The cylinder of an IC engine constitutes the basic and supporting portion of the engine power    unit. Its major function is to provide space in which the piston can operate to draw in the fuel    mixture or air (depending upon spark ignition or compression ignition), compress it, allow it    to expand and thus generate power. The cylinder is usually made of high-grade cast iron. In    some cases, to give greater strength and wear resistance with less weight, chromium, nickel    and molybdenum are added

DEFINITION OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING AND BASIC TERMS

DEFINITION OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING                  A branch of engineering concerned primarily with the industrial application of mechanics  and with the production of tools, machinery, and their products.             2.   BASIC TERMS OF MECHANICAL                           Stress:           It is the force that can prevent equal & opposite force. That means, it is the preventing force. If       one force acts on outside of a material, then a reactive force automatically acts to protest that force.     The amount of reactive force per unit area is called stress. e.g. Tensile Stress, Compressive Stress,       Thermal Stress.          Strain:        If a force acts on a substance, then in that case if the substance would deform. Then the amount of deformation per unit length of that substance is called strain          Torque or Turning Force :           It is the total amount of force which is required to create acceleration on moving substance.
